If you’re looking for the greatest traffic, the best time to post on Facebook is 11 a.m. on Wednesday. That’s one of the conclusions of a three-year study of more than 1.64 million posts by social media management company Vitrue. The study examined 1,500 brand streams. A summary of the survey results appears on All Facebook, the unofficial resource for the social networking site.
- Peak activity on Facebook runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
- Although brands tend to post around 3 p.m. EST, morning posts gather more comments.
- Posts made within the first 15 minutes of the top of the hour generate the most activity.
- The volume of posts and comments spikes on Wednesday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern time.
While that knowledge is useful, ironically it might hurt marketers who pile into the crowded morning hours, when their messages could get lost in traffic.
